(1889 - 1971). "Chief Red Cloud - Sioux" and "Annie Red Shirt - Sioux" watercolors; 6" x 8" period frames 14 1/2" x 10". Painter, sculptor, curator and writer - studied at Moore Institute and at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women. Mary was a member of the Art Society known as the "Phil Ten." Was Curator of Art at the Museum of Northern Arizona in 1928. Richard Magnum wrote a biography "One Woman's West - The Life of Mary Russell Farro Colton." One often sees a print of "Annie Red Shirt" - this image is the original.
