Fisherman's Luck by Charles De Feo

(1892-1978) Oil on canvas; 30" x 20". Framed. Charles studied under Howard Pyle in Wilmington, and later left school and moved to New York where he continued his studies in art. He lived in New York City for the remainder of his life. In addition to being a well-known artist of game fish and birds, he earned money in his younger days, illustrating covers for sport and detective magazines. During the 1940s and 1950s, he created magnificent game fish and game bird paintings that were used in prized annual calendars distributed by the Seagrams Company. In addition to his painting, Charles DeFeo was known as a world-class fisherman, and for many more years than he painted, he hand tied the most intricate and exquisite flies for the Atlantic salmon.
