Navajo Burham weaving with high thread content by weaver Sandy Begay. Hand spun, vegetally – dyed natural yarn. An extremely complex and creative pattern using elements of the major weaving styles of the “Four Corners” region.
The human like figures are commonly seen in rugs from the Shiprock Area, and the geometric designs in brown, black, grey and white tones are from the Two Grey Hills region. Comes in the herd of Churro sheep which were originally sheep the Navajos acquired from the Spanish. All colors are either blends of natural wools or vegetal dyes. In addition, Sandy often uses a red that is obtained by crushing and boiling cochineal beetles. This group of weavers is at the forefront of Navajo weaving today. Trunk piece, never used. 27" x 34"
