Vintage Chapaderos

Or in Spanish called Chaperraras. Also called saddle shields or "armas." Used predominantly in the Southwest Texas Chaparral during cow hunt or roundup by "brush poppers." Early type of Southwest cowboy gear. They popped wild longhorns from dense thickets, thorny brush, dwarf trees and sagebrush. This very unique and rare item was used for the protection of both horse and rider. Last half 19th Century. Note used, but well cared for condition.
